Adkins was last seen departing her place of work at the Honda of America Mfg., Inc. automotive plant in Marysville, Ohio on June 29, 2001, at the end of the second shift. She has never been heard from again. She was reported missing by her sister on July 8 after she failed to pick up her young daughter.

Prior to her disappearance, Adkins had stated that she was going to go on vacation for a week with a male coworker. When contacted by police after Adkins vanished, the coworker stated that he had not left town and had not been planning to do so. Adkins's case remains unsolved. Her family believes she met with foul play and is deceased, but due to the lack of evidence in her case it is being investigated as a missing person case rather than a crime.
