Details of Disappearance
Saif's parents are divorced, and his mother was awarded full custody of him in February 1998. They lived together in Beaumont, Texas. On July 1, 1998, Sayed El Arabi Mohamed Ahmed, Saif's father, took him to Cairo, Egypt. A photograph and vital statistics for Sayed are posted below this case summary.A month later, on August 3, a Texas court issued an order for the child's return. Sayed ignored the order and in October, warrants were issued for Sayed's arrest on charges of kidnapping and the unlawful retention of a child outside the United States. Sayed and Saif are thought to be still in Egypt. Saif's case remains unsolved.
Some agencies state that Saif disappeared on August 5, 1998.
