Alexander was last seen watching a football game in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 21, 2001. She was employed at a gas station at the time of her disappearance. She has never been heard from again. Authorities issued a warrant for Alexander's arrest the same week she vanished, and they initially thought she was running from the law. They also looked into the possibility that she had gone gambling in Omaha, Nebraska or had checked into a rehabilitation center, but none of the theories panned out. About a month after Alexander disappeared, her Ford Escort was located north of Red Cloud, Nebraska. It was in the middle of a field, concealed by trees. It had been there for at least a couple of weeks. There was no sign of her at the scene.

Alexander's husband was considered a possible suspect in her disappearance, but he cooperated with the investigation and passed a polygraph. He is now deceased, as is Alexander's father. Alexander left behind four children. She has a history of dropping out of sight for days at a time, but her loved ones don't believe she would have left of her own accord for an extended period.
