Laura and her brother Jonathon were abducted by their non-custodial parents, Leonardo Arciniega and Diana Polentino, from their Los Angeles, California foster home during a supervised visit on August 30, 2003. Arrest warrants for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution were issued for both of them on June 2, 2004, nine months after they and their children disappeared.

Leonardo and Polentino previously lost a two-month-old child to shaken baby syndrome; Leonardo is the prime suspect in the baby's murder. Laura and Jonathon were placed in foster care in May 2003 after their sibling's death. They are believed to be in danger. Polentino and the Arcineagas may still be in Los Angeles, or they may have traveled to Mexico, Venezuela, or to Colombia, which is where both parents are originally from. They may be traveling in a red four-door 1997 Ford Explorer. Polentino and Leonardo cleaned out their apartment before they left; investigators believe the abduction was premeditated.

Jonathon and Laura remain missing and their cases are unsolved.
