    Details of Disappearance

Ashby was last seen by his brother in Hartford, Kentucky on October 23, 1960. He may have been en route to California at the time; he had served in the Marines in that state. He has never been heard from again. There were possible sightings of Ashby in Owensboro, Kentucky and Evansville, Indiana after his disappearance, but these could not be confirmed. He may have changed his name to Leon Martinez in 1963. In 1982, his family got a phone message saying Ashby had died in Alaska in late 1981 or early 1982, but this story has not been verified either. Few details are available in Ashby's case.
