Details of Disappearance
Basgier was last seen sailing off the coast of Virginia Beach, Virginia on October 3, 1987. He and a companion, Marc McDaniels, were headed towards the Chesapeake Light Tower in a small blue fishing boat. That day, a storm blew through the area, creating 10- to 12-foot waves. The two fishermen never returned to shore and their boat has never been located. He and Basgier are presumed to be lost at sea.
