Details of Disappearance
Annette disappeared from New Paltz, New York on November 21, 2001. She was abducted by her non-custodial mother, Gloria Guillermina Clark. A photograph and vital statistics for Gloria are posted below this case summary. A felony warrant for international parental kidnapping has been issued for her.Annette's father, Steve Clark, has full custody of her. On November 20, 2001, he told a family judge he was afraid Gloria would take their daughter to Mexico. The judge warned Gloria that if she removed Annette from the state, she would immediately lose all her custody rights to Steve. She fled with Annette the next day, and Steve was awarded temporary full custody on November 26. The police refused to take a missing persons report for Annette until December.
Gloria's mother, Victoria Velez Aranda, and some of Gloria's siblings live in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Annette has been sighted there many times since her abduction. It's unclear whether the child is getting any education; her mother may be using falsified documents to enroll her in school. Annette was nearly recovered in late 2007; she was located by Mexican authorities and placed in a foster home so her father could get her. Gloria removed her daughter from the foster home and they vanished again, however. Annette may still be in Mexico. Her case remains unsolved.
