Comstock disappeared from Alhambra, California on July 13, 2000. She was sighted at an airport in Tijuana, Mexico sometime afterwards. She is believed to have been abducted by her non-custodial mother, Maria Diaz-Rivera, and taken to Mexico. Photographs and vital statistics for Diaz-Rivera are unavailable. Her date of birth is May 19, 1961; she was thirty-nine years old when she took her daughter.

Comstock's father has applied for return to the United States under the terms of the Hague Treaty on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, but so far Comstock has remained in Mexico. She and her mother may be in Veracruz, Puebla or Tlaxcala, and are probably with other family members. Her case remains unsolved.
