    Details of Disappearance

Douthart was last seen in Mount Pleasant, Iowa on May 22, 2011. She left her sister's home in a car with several individuals; one of them, Benjamin Joseph Biggs, claims he dropped her off near Remington Seeds after midnight. She may have attempted to buy alcohol at Z’s Quick Break at 2:00 a.m. She has never been heard from again.

Biggs is a person of interest in Douthart's case. Photographs of him are posted below this case summary. On June 29, more than a month after her disappearance, he stole a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban and led police on a high-speed chase through western Illinois. Biggs eventually crashed the vehicle into a police cruiser and shot at an officer, fled on foot, and hid inside out, shooting another police officer during the six-hour standoff that followed. Both shooting victims survived. Biggs committed suicide during the standoff by shooting himself. Authorities stated he had cooperated with the Douthart investigation prior to his death. He had a prior record for drug offenses and assaulting a peace officer, but it's unclear whether he was involved in her case.

Douthart was carrying her purse, a camera, an iPod and a cellular phone at the time of her disappearance. She left behind a young daughter and it's uncharacteristic of her to go for more than six hours without contacting anyone. Her case remains unsolved.
