He was supposed to return the children to their mother on May 11, but did not, and none of them have been heard from again. The children's mother, who is Ahmed's ex-wife, reported their abductions to police on May 14 and was subsequently granted sole custody of Sarah and Tariq.

Photographs and vital statistics for Ahmed are posted below this case summary. A felony warrant for kidnapping was issued for him on April 12, 2004. The Elsafis may have traveled to Canada, Sudan, Yemen or Saudi Arabia. The children's whereabouts are unknown and their cases remain unsolved.
