Field was last seen in Melbourne, Florida on March 27, 1993. He left the Summit Landings Marina in his thirty-foot fishing boat at about 12:30 p.m. At approximately 4:00 p.m., he called an employee of the car dealership he owned, Riverview Motors Inc.. Field said he was fishing thirty miles offshore. He has never been heard from again. His boat washed ashore in Indian River County, Florida after his disappearance. Field's case remains unsolved.
