Details of Disappearance
Galehouse went with his roommate to the gay nightclub 2606 in the 2600 block of Armenia Avenue in Tampa, Florida, in the early morning hours of December 20, 2003. Galehouse was a regular at the club. At approximately 2:45 to 3:00 a.m., he told his roommate he was leaving with with two white males he had just met. He has never been heard from again. Galehouse's roommate did not actually see the individuals he left with.Galehouse's mother, Pam Williams, believes her son was in a Ross store at the Gulf Gate shopping center in Sarasota, Florida in early 2004. A customer told her she had seen Galehouse there, and Pam concurred after viewing the Ross surveillance videotapes. She says she recognized her son by his general appearance and a distinctive bracelet and ring that he wore. This sighting has not been confirmed.
Galehouse's disappearance may be connected to the murder of Michael Wayne Wachholtz and the disappearances of Mark Thompson, James Shumaker, and Bradley Williams (no relation to Pam Williams). A photograph of Wachholtz is posted below this case summary. All of the men are homosexual, all are within the same age group, and they all disappeared from the same area. Thompson disappeared in 2001 from Clearwater, Florida, and his truck was later found abandoned in Tampa. Bradley disappeared in 2001 from Tampa, and Shumaker disappeared from Tampa in 1995. Walchholtz disappeared on the same day as Galehouse, and he was last seen at his Tampa apartment, which is not far from 2606 where Galehouse was last seen. The two men did not know each other, but both were members of the same online dating and chat service, and both frequented gay bars and clubs in the Tampa area. Wachholtz's body was found in mid-January 2004, wrapped in a sheet and stuffed in the back of his 1992 Jeep Cherokee SUV, which was in the parking lot of a Town 'N Country restaurant in Tampa. The other men remain missing.
In 2005, authorities searched Steven Lorenzo's home in Seminole Heights, Florida looking for information on Galehouse's disappearance. They also interviewed his neighbors. Investigators did not say what specifically they hoped to find and whether they found it. Curiously, Lorenzo lives across the street from the Drake Tower Condominium, where Mark Jackson and two other gay men have disappeared.
In May 2004, an affadavit was filed in the United States District Court of Tampa which accused Lorenzo of drugging Galehouse and Wachholtz, sexually abusing them, and causing their deaths. Scott Paul Schweikert was named as an accessory after the fact. Neither of them have been formally charged in Wachholtz's death and Galehouse's disappearance, however. Investigators alleged that Lorenzo and Schweikert gave the men gamma hydroxy butyrate (GHB), a "date rape" drug which causes people to become extremely drowsy and suggestible and, in higher doses, may put a person in a coma. They believe the two suspects lured men to Lorenzo's home, drugged them with GHB and tortured them. Lorenzo was convicted of ten GHB-related charges in 2006 and was sentenced to 200 years in federal prison. A photograph of him is posted below this case summary. Schweikert was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in the crimes. Schweikert told authorities that Lorenzo had killed Galehouse and dismembered his body in the garage, then put the parts in various area trash containers. Authorities did find Galehouse's blood on Lorenzo's garage floor.
Galehouse moved from Sarasota to Tampa four months before his disappearance. He is a graduate of Sarasota High School. He had been studying interior design at Hillsborough Community College and was employed as a flower arranger at a florist shop. The individuals last seen leaving the nightclub with him have never been identified and Galehouse has not been located.
