Girard was last seen by her husband in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 3, 2002. She was driving her blue Pontiac Grand Am at the time of her disappearance. Girard's husband reported that he lost sight of her in traffic. She has never been heard from again. Girard's vehicle was discovered abandoned several hours afterwards in Miami, Florida. The car was slightly damaged and was located in a marsh near remote farmland on Krome Avenue. There was no sign of Girard at the scene.

Girard's family said that it is uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance. She resided in Margate, Florida in early 2002.
