Herrington lead a transient lifestyle at the time of his disappearance and frequently stayed with two Waco, Texas families, one in the 2800 block of Mildred and one in the 7300 block of China Spring Highway. He was last seen on July 4, 2007. His roommates on Mildred said he went to take out the trash and never returned. He was not reported missing for over a year, as his friends assumed he had left of his own accord.

In July 2008, Linda Joyce Owen was charged with credit card abuse. She had allegedly been removing money from Herrington's checking account since he went missing. Owen was a relative of his roommates. It is unclear whether foul play is suspected in Herrington's disappearance, but he left behind all his personal belongings, including his bicycle, which was his only form of transportation. He is originally from Athens, Texas. His disappearance remains unsolved.
