Details of Disappearance
Mohamed-Ali was staying with his mother and his father, Hilal Hasan Ali Jaafar, in Oman in 2006. When Mohamed-Ali's mother wanted to return to their home in Toledo, Ohio on January 20, Hilal refused to leave or let her take their son, and she had to go home without him. On September 19, Mohamed-Ali's mother was granted a divorce from Hilal and full custody of their child. A photograph and vital statistics for Hilal are posted below this case summary. A felony warrant for kidnapping was issued for him on August 11, 2008.Hilal is a member of Oman's Al-Lawati tribe. He also has ties to Dubai, India, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Syria. He is the imam at a mosque near Muscat, Oman and is described as a very religious person. There is concern for Mohamed-Ali's safety, as Hilal is known to have violent tendencies.

He may use the name Hilal bin Hasan Al-Lawati. He wears a full beard and mustache. He has a small mole or birthmark on his left cheek, which is normally concealed by his facial hair. He occasionally wears eyeglasses. Hilal speaks fluent Arabic, English and Farsi, as well as an Indian language and the local Al-Lawati dialect. He also speaks limited Turkish.
