Details of Disappearance
Paige was last seen near 15th Street and Scott in Covington, Kentucky at approximately 1:00 a.m. on September 23, 2010. An adult male friend, Jacob Thomas Bumpass, says he dropped her off there. She was supposed to be going to her sister's home, but never arrived there. Paige never been heard from again. It's uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning; she always checked in with her mother every day. Her mother reported her missing at 7:30 p.m. that same day.A photo of Bumpass is posted below this case summary. He hasn't been cooperative in the investigation and has hired an attorney. Investigators haven't named him as a suspect, but they did say he acted suspiciously in the days following Paige's disappearance; he changed his cellular phone and also cleaned out his car, which is uncharacteristic of him. Police believe his account of Paige's disappearance is untrue; at the time he was supposed to be dropping her off in Covington, his cellular phone pings indicated he was in Florence, Kentucky. Florence is ten miles away and is Paige's hometown. Investigators searched Bumpass's apartment and vehicles, and found red and two latex gloves in his kitchen sink. The stains were not blood, however.
Bumpass has a prior conviction for felony theft. He served two years and nine months of an eight-year sentence and was on parole at the time of Paige's disappearance. In October 2010, he was jailed for violating his parole; he had weapons and alcohol in his home, and he admitted to using drugs. His parole was revoked and he will not be eligible for release from prison until 2013.
At around midnight, about an hour before Bumpass says he last saw her, Paige sent a message to her older sister saying she needed to talk to her immediately. She didn't say what she wanted to discuss, and the significance of the message, if any, is unclear.
Paige was unemployed and not attending school at the time of her disappearance, but she was looking for a job and hoping to enroll at Gateway Community and Technical College. She and her boyfriend were planning to move into an apartment together. Paige left behind a two-year-old daughter. She didn't have a cellular phone or any credit cards at the time of her disappearance, and she hasn't accessed her Facebook or MySpace pages since she vanished. Her loved ones stated she had a cheerful disposition and became very responsible and mature after the birth of her child, and had no reason to run away. Paige's case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected.
