A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warrant for international parental kidnapping was issued for her on March 22, 2000, over a year after the girls' abductions.

    Marie took Raie and Rachelle from Edgefield, South Carolina to visit her family in Mauritus, an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa, on September 6, 1998. on December 4, Marie called the children's father and said she wouldn't be coming home. The girls' father has custody of them in the United States and is fighting for their return to him.
