    Details of Disappearance

Karamuz and two friends, Jan Toryfter and Zdzislaw "Jerry" Piorkowski, pulled out of Husted Landing Marina on Husted Landing Road in Fairton, New Jersey at 2:00 p.m. on February 10, 2008, to go goose hunting in the marshland on Back Creek. They expected to return by 7:00 p.m., but they never returned, leaving their truck and boat trailer parked at the marina. They were reported missing shortly before noon the day after they were last seen.

Searchers found Toryfter's body in the marsh that night, near the men's boat, which was overturned on land with hunting gear, including one shotgun, flotation devices and a spotlight, stowed underneath. Toryfter had died of exposure. Several days later, they recovered Piorkowski's body more than half a mile from the boat. Karamuz has never been located, however.

All three of the hunters were from Poland. Karamusz is from Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, and worked as an emergency room doctor at the time of his disappearance. He is presumed to be deceased.
