Khan was last seen in Maplewood, New Jersey on May 2, 2007. He was abducted by his non-custodial mother, Safiye Rindan Gocmen. A photograph and vital statistics for Gocmen are posted below this case summary.

Khan's father, John Lagemann, has custody of him, and Gocman was prohibited from removing her son from the state of New Jersey. John also had Khan's name placed on a "no fly" list. In spite of these restrictions, Gocmen was able to fly to Turkey with Khan. John applied for his son's return to the United States under the Hague Treaty on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. He says he was able to see Khan for a few minutes in the courthouse hallway when a hearing on the matter took place in November 2007. Khan remembered him and called him Daddy. In January 2008, after a second hearing, John was able to visit Khan for several hours at the Turkish embassy. In February 2008, the Turkish family court ruled in John's favor, but Khan remains in Turkey while Gocmen is appealing the ruling.

Although Khan's whereabouts are known, he is still considered missing because he is not in the care of his custodial father.
