    Details of Disappearance

    Varvara was abducted by her non-custodial father, Emmanuel Lazaridis. Varvara's mother normally had custody of her, but Emmanuel got temporary custody when her mother was hospitalized. He then used an illegal passport to take Varvara out of the country, in violation of a court order requiring him to keep her in the United States. Photographs and vital statistics for Emmanuel are posted below this case summary. A kidnapping warrant was issued for him on October 7, 2004.

    Emmanuel and Varvara may be traveling around Europe. Varvara and her parents have previously lived in France; her mother has full legal custody of her in both France and the United States. Emmanuel was arrested in France after abducting Varvara, but was able to flee the country with her again before she could be brought back to the United States. The child's case remains unsolved.
