Marsh was last seen in Nevada City, California on April 14, 2009. The signal from his cellular phone was picked up by a tower near the Bullards Bar Reservoir. He has never been heard from again. Authorities believe Marsh's disappearance may be linked to a marijuana-growing operation. They found a trailer on his property in the 14000 block of Hobnob Way that contained marijuana residue and leaves, suggesting he'd grown marijuana there in the past. The trailer had been sold to Marsh by a Nevada City, California man; police found 30 pounds of processed marijuana and 100 marijuana plants in trailers registered in his name.

Marsh's truck was located in Riverside County, California over a month after his disappearance. Based on evidence found in his vehicle and other evidence they had uncovered, police reclassified his case as a homicide. His case remains unsolved, but foul play is suspected.
