Martinez was last seen leaving Club Guadalajara on Old Hickory Boulevard in south Nashville, Tennessee with a man at 5:00 p.m. on March 9, 2009. She spoke to a friend by telephone on March 15, and the friend became concerned and called the police. She has never been heard from again.

Authorities believe Jose Morano was with Martinez during the phone conversation, but they're not sure if he's the same man she left the club with. At the time of Martinez's disappearance, he was driving a turquoise 1995 Toyota Corolla with a stolen license plate numbered 638TJW and a unique yellow sticker in the rear window. Photos of the car and sticker are posted below this case summary. The vehicle was found abandoned on Allied Drive off Nolensville Pike three weeks after Martinez's disappearance was reported. Evidence inside it suggested a violent crime had occurred: there was a significant amount of Martinez's blood in the front passenger seat.

A photo of Morano is posted below this case summary. He dropped out of sight at the same time Martinez did, leaving all his belongings behind. Authorities later charged him with her murder and issued a warrant for his arrest. He wasn't located until July 2011, a year and a half after Martinez vanished; he was apprehended at a routine traffic stop in North Carolina after a fingerprint check showed he was wanted for murder. Morano has been returned to Tennessee to await trial.

Foul play is suspected in Martinez's case due to the circumstances involved.
