Missing Since: January 3, 2010 from Rye Brook, New York Classification: Family Abduction Date Of Birth: December 27, 1995 Age: 14 years old Height and Weight: 5'3, 100 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian male. Light brown hair, blue eyes. Christopher's nickname is Chris. He has a small scar on his abdomen.
Details of Disappearance
Christopher's parents, Thomas Mauriello and Tara Bray Afanasiev, are divorced. The custody agreement gave physical custody of Christopher to Thomas, but Afanasiev was allowed to take him out of the country for vacations and holidays. She took him to Bosnia over the Christmas holidays of 2009-2010. He was due to return to his home in Rye Brook, New York on January 3, 2010, but never did; instead, Afanasiev called Thomas and said Christopher didn't want to come home and he would be staying with her from now on.Thomas contacted the authorities. Arrest warrents have been issued for Afanasiev. An attorney in Bosnia served her with an order to appear before the New York State Supreme Court in February 2010, but she never arrived and was found to be in contempt. Afanasiev's American passport has suspended, but she can still travel on her British passport.
Christopher has apparently had no contact with his American family since January 2010. His whereabouts are unknown and his case remains unsolved.
