    Details of Disappearance

McGee was last seen in Monterey, California on December 9, 1982. She carried a black pocketbook or handbag at the time, and was driving a borrowed faded red Pontiac Sunbird with the California license plate number 034 THY.

On the night of her disappearance, McGee went to the Brickhouse Bar on Fremont Street. She had two drinks there, cashed a check, and left alone. Somewhere on the way back to her Seaside, California home she picked up an African-American male hitchhiker, Alfred Powell. The two of them arrived at McGee's residence and her roommate and brother saw them. She left again with Powell, saying she was going to drop him off. She was last seen pumping gas at a Quik Stop on north Fremont Street in Monterey. The gas station clerk thought McGee and Powell were going to a nightclub in Santa Cruz, California. McGee was supposed to meet a musician at the Bourbon Street Bar in downtown Monterey, but she never showed up. She has never been heard from again.

The person McGee borrowed her car from reported it stolen after she didn't return it. On February 8, 1983, security guards at the Hyatt Regency Hotel construction site in Monterey saw the car parked there. It was still there two weeks later, and the police were sent to investigate. This is when they linked the car to McGee's disappearance. Investigators didn't find any blood in the car, but they did find a cigarette butt, which is currently being tested for DNA. There was speculation that McGee's body was buried under the foundation of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, but investigators stated they had no evidence of that.

In early 1983, Powell was arrested for killing another young woman. He is currently serving a life sentence in prison and has refused to talk to investigators about McGee's case. He is a suspect in the death of one woman and the disappearance of another, both from the Monterey, California area. In addition, McGee's car was found near Powell's home. It hasn't been proven that Powell was involved in McGee's case, however.

McGee was separated from her husband at the time of her disappearance, and their three daughters lived with him. She was a regular at local bars and nightclubs. Her parents still live in the Seaside area, and Seaside police are investigating her case. Authorities believe McGee was the victim of a homicide. Her case remains unsolved.
