Ortiz was last seen in New Haven, Connecticut on December 28, 2005. He was riding his bicycle at the time of his disappearance. He has never been heard from again. He wasn't reported missing until January 1.

The same day Ortiz disappeared, a firefighter reported seeing a young man being pulled off a bicycle on Poplar Street near the firehouse. The man was pulled into a silver 1990s model Ford Taurus by three other men. The bicycle in the abduction was determined to be the same one Ortiz was last seen riding, and investigators believe the man was Ortiz. His case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected.
