Details of Disappearance
Perez-Miranda was last seen swimming in the Black Canyon Canal near Emmett, Idaho at 5:00 p.m. on June 27, 2006. He was swimming with two friends near South Slope Road when the three of them were swept into a tunnel. Perez-Miranda's companions resurfaced, but there was no sign of Perez-Miranda and he has never been heard from again. Authorities believe he drowned. Extensive searches of the canal turned up no sign of his body. It may have been swept out of the canal into the Payette River.Perez-Miranda was born in Zacatecas in central Mexico, and moved to the United States with his family at age five. He dropped out of school at age 16, but received his GED certificate. He was working as a landscaper at the time of his disappearance, and hoped to attend Boise State University in the future. Authorities stated they planned to make further efforts to recover Perez-Miranda's body; in the meantime, he remains classified as a missing person.
