Schweickardt was last seen at her duplex in the 5600 block of Monte Rosso Road in Sarasota, Florida on April 9, 2003. She had lived there since 1995. She has never been heard from again. She was reported missing by her friend after they were unable to get in touch with her for several weeks.

At the time of her disappearance, Schweikardt was trying to evict a man she was renting a room to. He told the police she was out of the country. She has traveled to Germany and Canada frequently in the past, but authorities have found no evidence that she left the United States after her 2003 disappearance. A search of Schweikardt's residence revealed a large amount of blood which someone had tried to clean up. Her purse and passport were also inside her home. Her vehicle, a silver and black 1987 Dodge Aries with the Florida license plate number F07ILF, was found in her tenant's possession in December 2003. He was was later arrested on an unrelated battery charge.

Foul play is suspected in Schweickardt's case, which remains unsolved.
