Seward attended a routine counseling session at Open Door Counseling in Newark, Delaware on October 14, 2004. He was planning to go to a friend's home afterwards, but never arrived. He has never been heard from again. Seward was carrying his wallet, cellular phone, and checkbook at the time of his disappearance.

Seward's car was found on Main Street in Newark the day after he was last seen, a few blocks from the counseling center. It had two flat tires and the keys were in the ignition. There was no sign of him at the scene.

Authorities learned that Seward withdrew several hundred dollars from his bank account a few days after he was last seen. They are uncertain whether he left of his own accord or if other factors were involved in his disappearance, but they do not believe foul play was involved in his case. Seward's case remains unsolved. His family says it is uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning.
