    Details of Disappearance

Sydney and her brothers, seven-year-old Andrew and five-year-old Nathan, were last seen in the 3100 block of south 600th Street in Greenfield, Indiana on October 17, 1995. Their parents, Steven Slinkard and Trena Faith Slinkard, were in the process of a divorce in 1995. Steven wanted a joint custody arrangement between himself and his ex-wife, Trena Faith Slinkard, until he found out Trena was planning to take the children to Texas. Steven then applied for and got full custody of Andrew, Nathan and Sydney and orders that the children were not to leave Indiana. Trena abducted them afterwards.

A photograph and vital statistics for Trena are posted below this case summary. A circuit court warrant for violation of a custody order was issued for her on January 30, 1996. A warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued for her by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on March 26, 1996. Trena and the children may be accompanied by Trena's new husband, Miguel Karlin, who is also a fugitive from unrelated charges. A photograph and vital statistics for Karlin are posted below this case summary.

A photo of Nathan from back in 1995 is posted below this case summary. In January 2014, at the age of 23, he walked into a U.S. consulate in Guadalajara, Mexico with documents proving his identity and asked to be returned to the United States. Within a few days he was reunited with his searching father. Nathan stated he and his siblings had been aware of their father's existence and Sydney and Andrew knew they could return to the U.S. if they chose. In August, Andrew also returned. Sydney remains listed as missing.

The charges against Trena have been dropped in hopes that this will encourage her and Sydney to return to the United States.
