Ogden, Utah's emergency services received a 911 phone call from a restaurant in the city on January 26, 2000. The called said her name was Linda Strong and claimed that a woman had just jumped into an ice hole in the Pineview Reservoir. The caller terminated the conversation afterwards and authorities arrived on the scene. Stark's vehicle was discovered abandoned at the scene with all of her personal belongings inside along with a suicide note.

Investigators learned shortly thereafter that Stark staged her own death. Restaurant employees identified Stark as the woman who called 911 from their phone on the day of her disappearance. A taxi driver from the Yellow Cab Company also identified her as the person he picked up from the restaurant and dropped off at the Ogden City Mall. He was the last person to see Stark. She has never been heard from again.

Authorities believe that Stark staged her suicide due to her drug addiction at the time. She apparently emptied the joint bank account she shared with her husband prior to her disappearance. Stark requested that her husband use her life insurance settlement to pay the over $50,000 she had accumulated in credit card bills and other debts in her suicide note.

Investigators have been unable to locate Stark. Her relatives and friends do not know her whereabouts. Stark's husband wants to find her to inform her of their eleven-year-old son's death in a traffic accident January 2001. Stark did not attend her son's funeral and authorities believe she does not know her child was killed. Stark left her daughter behind when she vanished in 2000.

Stark's husband has filed for divorce and investigators said he was moving on with his life. Her case remains unsolved.
