The middle sister in the family, fourteen-year-old Yadira Urias, was left behind. She stated Hugo dropped them off at school that day, which was unusual, but she didn't suspect anything was wrong. Yadira didn't find out her sisters were missing until after school when her mother, Luz Espinoza, came to get her. Espinoza had gone home to pick something up and discovered that Hugo, Viridiana and Yamile were missing and so were all their clothes.
